I pulled out my watercolors and painted this one evening, with Psalm 23 in mind. I love this passage. In fact, it was the first chapter in the bible that I had ever memorized. Although it is traditionally read during the final moments of someone's life, it holds great power and relevance in every season. It paints the picture of the Lord being our shepherd, leading us through the "mountaintop" and "cave" moments of life.

Lately, I've found myself in what you might call a "cave" moment. Over the past few months, I have been committed to intentional prayer in pursuit to seek God and his will for my life. He never fails to answer… just not always in the way we want. To be completely honest, the answer I received was not what I wanted to hear at all, and I questioned his direction. I held on so tightly to what I wanted to do, despite the deep conviction that he had called upon my heart. We can't be afraid to let go. We can't resist God's will.

This season of change and transition brings forth pain and bitterness. It’s triggered my anxiety and even leaves me feeling depressed at times. While these emotions are normal, we can't let them consume us. Learning to trust him even when we can't see where we're being led is HARD. It doesn't make sense at times and is never easy, but God Is not a liar. His promises have never failed and never will. I'm done chasing my feelings, my own ways, my own plans, and desires. I rely solely on God’s guidance, finding joy in him alone.

Maybe today you also find yourself in a “cave” moment. Keep your head up, my friend, for he is indeed the good shepherd.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Until next time,

Anna
